Q & A

Q: When and why did you start training for fighting?
ANSWER: I started training capoeira at eight years old and BJJ at 14 in 2010 in Manaus. I was a child with bad steps in life and BJJ took me out of the bad life and thanks to that, my life changed completely. I started to compete in many tournaments, and I started to stand out in my city. When I was 19 years old, I migrated to Mexico in search of a better life through martial arts and that was when I started fighting MMA and it is the country where I live to this day.
Q: What ranks and titles have you held?
ANSWER: I have several BJJ tiles in Brazil and Mexico. I am the 125-pound champion of LUX Fight League in Mexico.
Q: Who is your favorite fighter, and why?
ANSWER: My favorite fighter is José Aldo because of his legacy — he’s a huge inspiration. When I first saw him fight, it motivated me a lot to follow this path.
Q: Do you have any heroes?
ANSWER: Sidney Viana, who was the one who believed in me at the beginning and who also helped me a lot when I started all this.
Q: What would it mean for you to fight in the UFC?
ANSWER: Fighting for the UFC would be a dream come true. It would be an honor to compete among the best and represent Brazil and Mexico at the highest level of competition. It’s all I think about.
Q: What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career?
ANSWER: All of my fights have been key in my career; they’ve given me the experience I have right now.
Q: Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for?
ANSWER: I want to use my platform to motivate young people who are starting out in this path, which is mixed martial arts.
Q: Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you?
ANSWER: A lot of people motivate me to keep moving forward. It’s incredible to read messages from many fans saying that I’m their inspiration, and that’s something that makes me work harder every day.
Q: Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
ANSWER: Instead of college, I moved to Mexico to pursue martial arts.
Q: What was your job before you started fighting?
ANSWER: Many odd jobs; I’ve been working since I was very young.
Q: Ranks in any martial arts styles
ANSWER: BJJ black belt
Q: Favorite grappling technique:
ANSWER: Armbar
Q: Favorite Striking technique
ANSWER: Hook to the liver
Q: Tell us about your life outside of fighting:
ANSWER: My life outside of fighting? Honestly, it almost doesn’t exist because I live this sport 24/7. I have a jiu-jitsu academy with my friend Diego Lopes. I’m always teaching jiu-jitsu classes at my academy and training with my students. Maybe something outside of that would be motorcycles — I really like motorcycles. I’ve taken several trips to other states in Mexico on my bike. I enjoy that adrenaline and the scenery as well.
